The Queer Black, Asian & Indigenous Experience

The Black, Asian, Hispanic / Latinx, and Indigenous LGBTQ+ Community has always been the ‘other’ community, which, at times, do not always gain the support from within their own ethnic or queer communities. The experiences and challenges we hold as a unique community have felt exponential at times given the double discrimination and the severity of prejudice each identity has faced throughout history.
There are memes in abundance showing a room full of white gay male friends or the use of a social cause to amplify how supportive the queer white community is. However, the reality is that depth and strength of support, at times, feels fragile when challenged or presents as false.
So...
-
How do we raise awareness within our own community of these challenges?
-
How do we change our queer community’s exposure to different ethnicities and diverse backgrounds?
-
How do we create more unity within the community instead of the inauthentic unity that is seen across social media?
